Environment

PTI believes in responsible mining, in order to prevent and minimise damage caused to the natural environment and physical systems or living organisms within and around the mine areas. The company has already won a number of awards in "Mines Environment and Mineral Conservation Week" organised by Indian bureau of Mines.

PTI takes special care to restore and rehabilitate the denuded land, so as to bring it as close as possible to its original ecological condition. Periodic monitoring of the quality of soil, air, and water is undertaken at all the mine sites in operation. This is carried out in co-operation with a government approved agency specialised in the field.

Air

Dust suppression is a major part of the efforts to protect the areas surrounding the mines. Water tankers with sprinklers are used in the mines to sprinkle water on the haul road and other working areas where there is a significant displacement of dust. Sprinkling of water helps to suppress the dust effectively. This is done to ensure healthy plant cover, as well as to help the mine workers.

Water

Extensive lime treatment is done on pit water, settling ponds and also in places where pit water is discharged. This ensures that contamination is within control.

Land

Degraded land is restored by afforestation and landscaping. This is done as per the guidelines of the Central Pollution Control Board and the plantations are well tended to, ensuring a 70% survival. Sometimes, alternate usage of degraded land is also considered and water-bodies such as lakes and ponds are created. These are also sometimes used for pisciculture.
